... on Tax Day and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Pat Toomey is talking about the three things that he dislikes more than anything else: excessive government spending, high taxes, and, also, high taxes.
Arrayed around him at a table at a coffeeshop in suburban Harrisburg are nine small businessowners. And the agreement with Toomey' s small government gospel is enthusiastic.
"It's absurdly complicated," Toomey says of the labyrinthine U.S. tax code. "Companies spend almost as much on compliance as they do paying it. We tolerate the second-highest corporate tax rate in the world and put ourselves at a competitive disadvantage."
